Rajai Davis concluded his career at Avery Point as the program’s all-time career and single season runs scored leader, and the single season record holder for triples as well. A two-time All-New England pick, he helped the Pointers to the New England Championship as a freshman and a runner-up finish as a sophomore. Selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft, he embarked on a 19-year career in professional baseball, including 14 years in the majors. Davis totaled over 1,100 hits in the big leagues and swiped 415 bases, including a league-leading 43 with the Cleveland Indians in 2016. His dramatic game-tying ninth inning home run in game seven of the World Series that same year will forever go down in baseball lore. Davis was inducted into the UConn Avery Point Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
