John Portelance competed in both baseball and basketball at UConn Avery Point. At the conclusion of his time at Avery Point, he ranked tops on the school’s all-time list for wins and innings pitched, while also ranking near the top in career winning percentage and earned run average. Portelance was also a career .291 hitter for the Pointers. He was inducted into the UConn Avery Point Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
