A two-time selection for Honorable Mention All-American, Al Gomes was a 1,000-point scorer for the Pointers and a Division III All-New England pick during the 1997-98 season. The following year, he also led Avery Point to the finals of the Region XXI Tournament for the first time in program history. Gomes was inducted into the UConn Avery Point Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.
