Hall of Fame
The inaugural Athletic Director and head baseball coach at UConn Avery Point, Fred Janney’s efforts brought athletics to fruition on the campus. He arrived at Avery Point in the early 1970’s from the Storrs campus and filled a variety of roles including Acting Campus Director, Registrar and Business Manager/Executive Assistant to the Director. Janney, who coached the Pointers’ inaugural diamond squad in 1971, hired George Greer as baseball coach the following year to set the wheels on motion on a highly successful program. Janney was inducted into the UConn Avery Point Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.
