A longtime fixture in the UConn Avery Point athletic department, Pete Kiefer began his collegiate career at Eckerd College before returning back home to Connecticut to suit up for the Pointers in 1984. He collected All-Conference honors and was also named Team MVP. Kiefer continued on to the Storrs campus, but was sidelined for his junior and senior years due to injury. Kiefer later played professionally in Holland, France and Belguim and earned a Gold Glove in 1996 for playing errorless ball at seven different positions for the Pitaland Pioneers of Belgium. From there, he began working for Major League Baseball as Latin American Envoy Coordinator. Serving as an Ambassador for Baseball throughout Central and South America, Kiefer worked with national teams, taught at major universities, and designed coaches training courses implemented in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. A long-time assistant coach for the Pointers across multiple stints, Kiefer also has a master’s degree in special education with postgraduate work in bilingual studies. He was inducted into the UConn Avery Point Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
