The first UConn Avery Point baseball alum to reach the Major Leagues, Pete Walker won 11 games and struck out 91 batters during his Pointers’ career, while also posting a .298 batting average. From there, Walker moved on to Storrs and won 11 games in two seasons with the Huskies before being selected in the seventh round of the 1990 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Mets. He reached the show with the Mets in 1995 and spent 19 seasons total in professional baseball. Walker then transitioned into a coaching role and has served as the Toronto Blue Jays pitching coach since 2012. He was inducted into the Avery Point Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
