UCONN Avery Point

The current shape of the UConn Avery Point athletic department and baseball program was initiated by George Greer, who was hired in 1972 as the Athletic Director and head baseball coach for the Pointers. As baseball coach, Greer guided the program to nine Connecticut Small Conference titles and 147 victories. As Athletic Director, Greer utilized the campus’ athletic facility to enhance overall program offerings. Greer also served as the head men’s basketball coach at Avery Point. He departed UConn Avery Point in 1982 and went on to serve as the head baseball coach at Davidson College and later, Wake Forest University. Greer was inducted into the UConn Avery Point Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.
