Hall of Fame
Named an All-American and All-New England selection during his time at UConn Avery Point, John McDonald continued his collegiate career at Providence College before being tabbed by the Cleveland Indians in the 12th round of the 1996 Major League Baseball draft. McDonald played 19 professional seasons, including 15 in the Major Leagues, and won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2013. After the conclusion of his playing career, McDonald served as a coach within the Indians’ organization. He was inducted into the UConn Avery Point Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
