GROTON, Conn. — UConn Avery Point Athletics is proud to announce the addition of women's volleyball to its intercollegiate athletic program, with competition scheduled to begin in the Fall 2027 semester.
The addition of women's volleyball represents an exciting expansion of athletic opportunities for students at UConn Avery Point and reflects the campus's continued commitment to providing a competitive, positive, and rewarding student-athlete experience.
"We are extremely excited to welcome women's volleyball to the Avery Point athletic family," said Travis Beausoleil, Director of Athletics at UConn Avery Point. "This is an important step forward for our athletics program and, most importantly, creates another opportunity for students to represent UConn Avery Point while competing in a sport they are passionate about. We look forward to building a program that our campus and community can be proud of."
The new volleyball program will join UConn Avery Point's established tradition of intercollegiate athletics and will provide prospective and current students with another avenue to compete while pursuing their academic goals at the University of Connecticut.
Planning for the inaugural 2027 season will begin immediately. UConn Avery Point Athletics will conduct a search for the program's first head coach, with recruiting and roster development to follow. Additional details regarding coaching staff, scheduling, conference affiliation, tryouts, and recruiting opportunities, an will be announced as they become available.
The addition of women's volleyball is also expected to strengthen connections between UConn Avery Point Athletics and the surrounding southeastern Connecticut volleyball community, providing new opportunities to engage local student-athletes, families, schools, clubs, alumni, and supporters."This is about more than adding another team," said Beausoleil "It is about continuing to grow the student experience at Avery Point and giving more students the opportunity to build friendships, develop as leaders, compete at the collegiate level, and proudly wear UConn Avery Point across their chest."
Prospective student-athletes interested in becoming part of the inaugural UConn Avery Point women's volleyball team will be encouraged to submit their information to the athletic department as recruiting efforts get underway. The team will begin competition during the Fall 2027 season and will compete in NJCAA Region XXI (New England). The Pointers will be immediately eligible for playoffs and post season accolades.
