Rafael Gonzalez Nieves came into the program in the 2015-16 season. Coach Gonzalez was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Maria Nieves and Jose Gonzalez. He graduated in 2010 from Bernardino Cordero Bernard High School, and he was part of the basketball team in his senior year. He attended Ponthifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico where he played on the team three years and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in sport science and fitness training with 3.00 GPA. Coach Gonzalez relocated to Groton after graduation to look for new opportunities. Coach “Rafa” has great passion for the game, and passes his extensive knowledge of the game on to the players in the program.
