ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Connecticut Avery Point baseball team split a pair of games during day one action at the regional tournament today. In the opener,
Brayden Cooney (Southington, Conn.) smacked two home runs and had four RBI in a 12-5 win over Mercyhurst Northeast.
Noah Yokoi (Westport, Conn.) totaled three hits in the nightcap, but host Monroe Community College captured a 21-5 win over the Pointers.
The split puts UCAP in the losers' bracket and results in a rematch with Mercyhurst Northeast on Saturday at noon. A loss ends the 2019 season, while a win will set up a rematch with Monroe CC at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
